Willie and Eunice BanksColonel (ret) Willie Banks, Jr. is a graduate of Southern University, where he received both a Bachelor’s degree in political science and a Juris Doctorate degree.   He received an ROTC commission and served in worldwide assignments during his 27-year military career.  Colonel Banks’ military awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star medal and the Legion of Merit.  He is a graduate of the Army War College.  Since his military retirement in 1994, he has resided in Lacamp, LA, a small community in rural Vernon Parish.

After fulfilling his initial military obligation, Colonel Banks left active duty to attend Law School.  During this time, he remained active in the Army Reserves.  After finishing Law School and prior to going back on active duty, Colonel Banks worked on the Staff of the Louisiana State Attorney General, where he wrote opinions in response to questions submitted by elected officials and Public Bodies. Upon retirement from the Military, Colonel Banks’ legal career blossomed.  In addition to his private practice, he has served as a Town Attorney, City Attorney and was appointed by the United States Department of Justice to Serve as the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Alexandria Division of the Western District of Louisiana.

In his community, he and his wife have been recognized by the local school board for their commitment and involvement in seeking to improve the quality of education in the Parish.  He has served on the Board of Directors of numerous civic organizations.  Among them, the East Central Vernon Water System, Vernon Parish Community Action Agency, Vernon Parish Indigent Defender Board, Vernon Parish Sheltered Workshop and Acadiana Legal Services Corporation.  He is a life member of VFW Post 3106 and American Legion Post 387, Life member of the Southern University Alumni Association, Life member Military officers of America Association, and serves as Deacon and Usher at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Leesville LA.  He has been married more than 50 years to Eunice, a retired Employee of the VA Medical Center in Pineville, LA.  And, they have one son, Byron K. Banks, MS, who serves on the staff at Texas A&M, Galveston.
